Gothic music and style counteract the “health and wealth” mentality that places matters of prestige and physicality above those of emotion and spirituality. Essentially, they re-invoke Pachad, the fear that is in fact healthy awe of the processes of life and death, without which we become complacent and stagnant. Both are overt reactions against the repressive conditions of mundane community consensus.
