Sunlight-Colored Roses

A sanctuary for dreams and shadows

AJ, Zoya (2020)

Finally got around to painting my nails. AJ is a “subtle, sparkling blush with a gorgeous copper micro-shimmer,” according to Zoya’s website. It’s one of the three newest colors I have, along with Sally Hansen’s Eco-Rose and Pacifica’s Pink Cloud. My Pacifica matte topcoat has been amazing.

Last weekend I got an Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Matte & Satin Lipstick in Dusty Rose. It looks like the whole line came out in January of this year. It has been a great color for me all week. However, I have also really been enjoying my Buxom Pyro Shimmer Shock (2016) for the first time. I guess my tastes and/or complexion changes, and colors I once loved lose their appeal. Others that did little for me before are suddenly what I prefer.

Zoya came out with a collection for Fall 2022 called Cafe Creams. I love the color Ophelia, but I would wear that on weekends or vacation only. I already have a number of weekend- and vacation-only nail polishes.

I’ve been wearing my Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely (2005) perfume every day. As much as I love it, it doesn’t really feel like “now,” part of the present era. It’s out of time, like so many things I love. I have started feeling like I don’t want to wear it to work, because it makes me feel dated. I wanted it because it is dated, but using something for that reason doesn’t work in an everyday context. It works when I’m in a private or imaginative space.

I’m wearing my Paloma Picasso (1984) perfume tonight, which I enjoy very much. It’s a splash, so I wouldn’t wear it to work for that reason, because I could accidentally stain my clothes putting it on. I need something in a spray or rollerball for work. Tory Burch’s fragrance line appeals to me a lot. I tried the Tory Burch (2013) tester today at Ulta and didn’t like it. I love Just Like Heaven (2018) and Knock on Wood (2019) very much, but both are discontinued. I want to get a cruelty free fragrance, but the only ones at Ulta were the Billy Eilish and Ariana Grande ones, and neither really suit me. I’d like a fragrance that feels “soft pink” like Lovely does but nothing’s coming to me right now.

I am intrigued by Tory Burch’s Sublime Rose regarding my “soft pink” fragrance quest, but I don’t want to purchase without a try first. It looks like I can try the whole Essence of Dreams collection at Nordstrom. I’ll look into doing that next weekend. My day tomorrow is spoken for. Today I got a wonderful Chi flat iron with spray and clips and flat-ironed my hair. It’s how I intended to wear this hairstyle, and I’m glad I finally did it. It’s something I’ll be able to do on afternoons or on days off.
