This was the last picture I took of Belle before she disappeared and we found her later outside someone else‘s fence in March. I walked down to the place where we left her on our property, but there was not a trace left I could see. I actually would have liked to see her gray and white fur again one more time, if you can believe it, even like that.
I will forever be grateful we found her body and can have closure even if we can’t know what happened to her. She was far enough from the road that it seems possible she wasn’t hit by a car but died of an illness. Her body had no sign of trauma and her pose and face looked peaceful, even though decomposed.
She had some signs that she was ill before she disappeared. On the last day I saw her, she was lying in the field in the full sun for hours. When I tried to approach her, she ran away. She had been acting strangely before that, too.
