Sunlight-Colored Roses

A sanctuary for dreams and shadows

Lee Welch’s Mr. Collins in Love

I am about halfway through the novel and love it. I was not expecting to read a Pride and Prejudice-inspired m/m romance soon or maybe ever, but the sample drew me in, and I have been immersed.

It’s a breath of fresh air, just how relatable Mr. Collins’ struggles are, as well as how relatable Austen’s novels were. I have often felt that even though this isn’t nineteenth century England, it’s unbelievably similar here in present-day Texas. Mr. Collins having to constantly cater to the expectations of others for his survival, even groveling sometimes. I find not only William and Jem touching, but also Mrs. Fowkes and Milly. How beautiful it is to have someone to love and trust in completely, and also how beautiful just to live as you want to, without being forced into a certain way by others.
