I had a good time visiting the Merle Hay Mall on two separate occasions. I would not call it a dead mall, but it was definitely a slow mall, quiet, plenty of empty space, an un-place. The food court had few open shops and was mostly deserted.
I got my hair done at an Ulta store in this mall for Nathan’s banquet, and that was a fun experience. It was one of the few times that I really have ever had an opportunity to sit and talk with someone who lives there, and I wouldn’t have exchanged it for anything. The Ulta store was very quiet, too, but a lot less messy than the ones in my area, which are always crowded.
Retail in general very much feels like it’s dying out.
My local Target in Burleson has come back a little bit in the last few months, despite Target in general doing so poorly. I actually found everything on my shopping list there, though there were plenty of empty shelves.
